Your first Spa day, what to expect
Discover everything you need to know before attending a Spa Day at one of our Hiddenwell Spas.
Never been on a Spa day before? You're in for a treat.
Whether you're planning a little time to yourself, catching up with someone special or simply escaping the everyday for a few hours, there's something rather lovely about having absolutely nowhere else you need to be.
But if it's your first time, you might have a few questions. What do you wear to a Spa day? What should you bring? And what actually happens once you arrive?
Don't worry, we've got you covered. Here's everything you need to know about your first Spa day at Hiddenwell.
First things first, which Spa day is for you?
At Hiddenwell, we have a couple of ways to spend your Spa day. Whether you're here for the facilities or fancy adding a little extra pampering, there's something for everyone.
Purity Spa Day
For those who simply want to switch off and enjoy everything the Spa has to offer. Think warm pools, soothing saunas, peaceful relaxation spaces and a delicious three-course lunch. The rest of the day? Entirely up to you.
Serenity Spa Day
Our Serenity Spa Day includes everything a Purity Spa Day does, plus a 60-minute treatment from our Serenity Collection. Perfect if you're looking for that extra dose of relaxation.
What should you bring to a Spa day?
The good news? Not much.
We've taken care of most of the essentials, so there's no need to pack for every eventuality. Just pop a few things in your bag, and you're good to go.
Your Spa day packing list:
Swimwear: An essential for enjoying our pools, saunas and thermal experiences.
Flip-flops: Perfect for wandering between Spa facilities. Forgotten yours? You can pick up a pair from our Spa Boutique.
A change of clothes: Something comfortable to slip into when your day comes to an end.
Gymwear and closed-toe shoes: For those who are looking to hit the Wellness Suite or attend one of our classes, make sure you pack your gymwear. And if you are feeling adventurous, ensure closed-toe shoes are packed for activities such as Archery.
Your favourite skincare or haircare essentials: For getting ready afterwards, if you fancy.
And that's about it! Robes and towels are provided, so you can leave the bulky bits at home.
As for what to wear to a Spa day? Think comfort. You'll spend most of your visit in your swimwear and robe, so there's no need to dress up for the occasion.
So, what actually happens on a Spa day?
1. Arrive, check in and leave the everyday behind
Your day begins at Spa Reception, where one of our friendly team members will welcome you, get you checked in and talk you through everything you need to know.
You'll be given the details of your day, including lunch or any treatment bookings, along with a little guidance on where to find everything.
And if you're the sort of person who likes to start the morning with a coffee or a bite to eat before doing anything else? That's absolutely fine too. If you're visiting Hoar Cross Hall, you can visit the Atrium, or if you're going to Eden Hall, the Vinery is the perfect place.
There's no rush. This day is all about you.
2. Robes on. Relaxation mode activated.
Once you've found the changing rooms and slipped into your swimwear and robe, the hardest decision of the day awaits.
Where to first?
Perhaps a gentle dip in the pool, a little time in the bubbles or somewhere cosy to settle down with a book.
Both Hoar Cross Hall and Eden Hall have plenty of spaces to explore, from warm pools and soothing saunas to peaceful relaxation areas designed for doing very little at all.
Our advice? Have a little wander, get your bearings and see what takes your fancy.
3. Discover the wonderful world of thermal experiences
Think warm saunas, aromatic steam rooms, invigorating cold experiences and plenty of opportunities to unwind in between.
The benefits of a sauna and steam room go beyond simply feeling lovely. Heat can help relax tired muscles, encourage circulation and ease feelings of tension, while the contrast between warm and cool experiences can leave you feeling wonderfully refreshed. Our new Element Experience at both Spas includes the Himalayan Salt Sauna, Infrared Saunas and... if you dare, the Drench Shower.
The secret? Take your time.
Enjoy the warmth, cool down gradually and give yourself a moment to rest between experiences. There's no need to try everything in one go.
Fancy trying something a little different?
There's plenty more to discover beyond our pools and thermal experiences.
Both Hoar Cross Hall and Eden Hall offer a varied Wellness and Fitness Timetable, with everything from calming yoga and Pilates sessions to more energetic HIIT and spin classes. Or, if slowing things down is more your style, why not give meditation a go?
You'll also find our Wellness Suites at both Spas, complete with gym facilities for those who fancy fitting in a workout.
Prefer a little fresh air? Our outdoor pursuits offer another way to spend your day, with activities such as Archery, and even Axe Throwing at Hoar Cross Hall!
And what about an Aufguss sauna ritual?
You might spot an Aufguss ritual on our Wellness Timetable. If you're wondering what that means, it's a guided sauna experience led by a trained Sauna Master, who uses water, aromatic infusions, music and towel movements to circulate waves of warm, scented air around the sauna.
It's a wonderfully immersive experience, and something a little different to your usual sauna visit.
If you're new to sauna rituals, just let our team know. They'll happily explain what to expect.
4. An hour that's entirely yours
If you've booked a Serenity Spa Day, there's another exciting part of your visit to look forward to: your treatment.
Your Serenity experience includes a treatment from our specially curated Serenity collection, designed to help you feel rested, restored and completely looked after.
Simply make your way to Treatment Reception around 5–10 minutes before your appointment, and we'll take it from there.
Whether you're enjoying a soothing massage or a nourishing facial, this is your invitation to switch off completely.
And afterwards? Don't feel you need to jump straight back into the Spa. Find a peaceful spot in our post-treatment room and enjoy that lovely feeling for a little longer.
A little tip: If you're not booked onto a Spa day with a treatment included, you may still be able to add one to your visit, subject to availability. Just ask our team.
5. Let's talk lunch
Because a Spa day isn't quite complete without something delicious.
Our Spa day experiences include a seasonal three-course lunch, giving you the perfect excuse to swap your poolside lounging for a leisurely catch-up over good food.
Whether you're visiting Taste of Eden at Eden Hall or Hugo's at Hoar Cross Hall, expect a selection of dishes to enjoy at your own pace.
And the best bit about Spa days with lunch included? There's no need to make separate plans. It's all part of your day.
6. Still got time? Make the most of it.
Lunch finished, treatment enjoyed, and still a few hours left?
Wonderful.
Maybe there's a sauna you've not explored yet, a relaxation room calling your name or a class you'd love to try. Or perhaps you'd rather head back to your favourite pool and spend the afternoon doing absolutely nothing.
Both sound like excellent plans to us.
7. Until next time...
Eventually, it'll be time to swap your robe for your everyday clothes and head back to reality.
But hopefully, you'll be leaving feeling a little lighter, a lot more relaxed and already thinking about when you can come back.
And now that you've mastered your first Spa day? Well, there's always a Spa stay to look forward to next time at Hoar Cross Hall.
Your first Spa day FAQs
How long does a Spa day last?
Our full Spa days offer access from morning until early evening, giving you plenty of time to enjoy the facilities, lunch and any treatments. Exact arrival and departure times will be confirmed with your booking.
What's the difference between a Spa day and a Spa break?
A Spa day is exactly what it sounds like: a day dedicated to relaxation, without staying overnight. A Spa break takes things one step further, combining time in the Spa with an overnight stay, so you can enjoy a little more time away from everyday life. Available at Hoar Cross Hall.
What is Spa day etiquette?
Nothing too complicated, we promise! Keep conversations at a gentle volume in relaxation areas, shower before entering pools, follow the guidance displayed around the Spa and be mindful of other guests enjoying their downtime. Most importantly, respect your own pace and don't feel pressured to try everything.
Do I need to book treatments in advance?
We'd always recommend booking treatments ahead of your visit. Treatments may be available on the day, but these are subject to availability.
What are the benefits of a Spa day for mental health?
Sometimes, simply taking time away from your usual routine can make a real difference. A Spa day gives you the opportunity to slow down, disconnect from everyday distractions and focus on yourself. Relaxation, gentle movement and time spent unwinding may help ease stress and support your overall sense of wellbeing.
Do I need to know how to swim?
Not at all. We have plenty to enjoy beyond the swimming pools, including saunas, steam rooms, relaxation spaces, treatments and dining. Always follow pool safety guidance and check with our team if you're unsure about a particular facility.
Can I visit the Spa on my own?
Absolutely! Bring a book, explore the facilities and enjoy the freedom of doing exactly what you fancy, whenever you fancy.
